Ideal Logic Max vs Vogue Max: how to compare two boiler quotes

Choose between an Ideal Logic Max Combi2 and a Vogue Max by comparing the exact models against your home’s heating and hot-water needs, then comparing the complete installation. The Vogue name alone does not establish that its quote is better. A useful upgrade should solve a specific problem or offer a benefit you can identify and value.

This guide compares combi options. If one quote retains a hot-water cylinder and the other removes it, first resolve that system choice: you are comparing different jobs, not simply two boiler ranges.

Start with the full model, not just ‘an Ideal boiler’

Ask each installer to specify the full range name, model output, fuel and controls. Ideal’s Logic Max product page links to Combi2 documentation; older Logic, Logic+ and other versions should not be treated as interchangeable. Keep the model-specific specification with the quotation so a later substitution is visible.

Compare hot water and heating separately

The figures below illustrate two possible quotations, not a recommendation for every house. Manufacturer hot-water figures use a 35°C temperature rise. They are not a promise of that flow at every tap: the incoming supply, winter water temperature and household demand still need assessment.

What would the difference change in your house?

In this example, the quoted hot-water difference is 0.7 litres per minute under the same stated test condition. Ask what that would mean for your actual shower or bath, rather than buying on the larger model number. If the supply is the constraint, a different boiler alone may not deliver the result you want.

The lower minimum heating output on the illustrated Vogue model is another point to discuss, especially when the home needs only modest heat. It does not establish a particular bill saving. Ask the installer to explain the heat-loss assessment, controls and proposed settings together. These are questions for the professional designing the installation, not settings to change yourself.

Put these headings beside both quotations. Mark an item ‘not stated’ when it is missing; do not assume it is included. This is our comparison method, not a manufacturer scoring system.

• Position and access: proposed location, service access, flue route and any cupboard or making-good work.

• Responsibility: who installs, who handles installation faults and who arranges the manufacturer warranty.
• Total scope: VAT, exclusions, disposal, payment stages and how any extra work is agreed.

Treat the warranty as a separate part of the decision

Get the warranty duration and its conditions in writing for the exact installation. Ideal’s standard terms require registration within 30 days and annual servicing; the document also sets conditions for installation and maintenance. Confirm what records you must retain and who is responsible for registration. Do not assume every quote using the same range name comes with identical cover.

When is the higher quote worth taking forward?

Take it forward when the installer can name the extra benefit and show why it matters in your home. If both installations meet your requirements, weigh that benefit against the total price and aftercare arrangements. A vague ‘better boiler’ is a reason to ask for clarification, not a complete comparison.
