Glow-worm boiler quote: which guarantee are you actually getting?

A Glow-worm quote needs to identify the boiler model and the guarantee being offered, including any filter and installer-registration conditions. “Up to 10 years” is not confirmation that your installation includes ten years of cover. Compare the written package before deciding whether it suits your home.

The useful question is not simply whether Glow-worm is a good brand. It is whether this particular boiler, installation and aftercare package meets your needs. This guide checks the manufacturer’s published information; it is not a hands-on test or a reliability ranking.

Why can two Glow-worm quotes promise different guarantees?

Glow-worm’s current registration page lists Energy at seven years as standard and up to ten through its installer scheme, while Ultimate is listed at five years as standard and up to ten. The extended offers marked with an asterisk require a Glow-worm Power System Filter and registration through the installer scheme.

The page uses both myREWARDS and Club Energy wording. Ask the installer to confirm the current registration route and the guarantee they will register for your exact model. A filter described only as “magnetic filter” is not enough to establish that the stated condition has been met.

Record the promised term in the quote, then check the manufacturer’s confirmation after installation. If the installer proposes a different range or an older model, ask for its own current terms rather than borrowing the headline from another boiler.

What should an Energy combi quote specify?

Glow-worm’s Energy combi page lists 25, 30 and 35kW models and repeats the seven-year standard guarantee and conditional extension up to ten years. A quote saying only “Glow-worm Energy” leaves the exact appliance unresolved.

Ask why the proposed model suits your heating and hot-water requirements, what has been checked at the property and whether your existing controls will be reused. The manufacturer’s product family gives you options; it does not choose the correct installation for your house.

Also have the installer confirm the proposed location and required access. A boiler described as cupboard-sized still needs an installation that follows the relevant manual. Do not choose from cabinet dimensions alone.

What does the boiler guarantee leave out?

Glow-worm’s published terms cover manufacturing defects in boiler components, subject to their conditions. External heating components, such as room thermostats and motorised valves, are outside that boiler cover; accessories have separate guarantees. Annual servicing is required and its cost is not included.

The terms require registration within 30 days of installation and say late registration reduces the guarantee to 12 months. They also require a completed Benchmark logbook and retained servicing records. Third-party repair invoices are not reimbursed unless Glow-worm pre-authorised them in writing.

Ask separately who handles installation workmanship problems and what the installer’s terms cover. A manufacturer guarantee and an installer’s promise are different parts of the offer. Keep both with the invoice and registration confirmation.

Imagine two quotes for the same Energy model. One names the required filter, promises the extended term and says the installer will arrange registration. The other states the standard term and simply lists a filter. The second may be a perfectly valid offer, but the two packages have not promised the same cover. Ask whether the second installer can offer the same package and what changes if they do. Then weigh that against the full installation scope and support. A longer term does not establish better installation quality, and a familiar badge does not remove the need to understand the contract.

If an alternative brand has been quoted, compare its own written conditions. Do not assume that similar guarantee lengths mean identical exclusions or service requirements.

When is a Glow-worm quote worth taking forward?

Take it forward when the installer can explain why the exact boiler suits your property, has made the work clear and will confirm the guarantee you are buying. Pause if the model, registration conditions or responsibility for aftercare remains unclear.
