What should a new boiler cost you?
Four questions, and we'll show you the range the market charges for a job like yours — and exactly how we got there. Under a minute.
We will not give you a price. Nobody honestly can without seeing your pipework. What we can do is make sure you walk into a quote knowing what normal looks like — which is the difference between negotiating and guessing.
What actually moves the number
The boiler itself
£700 – £1,600Trade price, not the RRP you see online. A mid-range 30kW combi is £900–£1,200. A premium brand with a 12-year warranty costs more, and is often worth it.
Labour
£500 – £1,200One day for a straight swap, two or three for a conversion. London and the south east run 30–40% higher than the north. This is the number that varies most.
Flushing the system
£100 – £500A chemical flush is the cheap end, a full power flush the expensive one. This is where two quotes most often diverge — and the cheaper one is not automatically wrong. It depends on the state of your system.
Magnetic filter
£80 – £150Most manufacturer warranties now require one. If it is not on the quote, that quote is not comparable with one that has it.
Typical fitted price, by job
Ranges reflect the UK market for a typical 3-bed home, boiler and labour included. Yours will sit somewhere inside them, or occasionally outside — and only an installer who has looked at your house can say where.
What have you got now?
Look for a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard.
