Ideal boilers reviewed: what the warranty actually says

If you live in a rented house or on a newer estate around Northampton or Milton Keynes, there is a fair chance the boiler in your kitchen cupboard is an Ideal Logic. Ideal sell a lot of boilers into the rental and new build market, installers fit them in volume, and parts are easy to get. None of that is in dispute.

So, as with our Worcester Bosch and Vaillant reviews, this is not a review of whether the boilers are any good. It is a read of the thing that actually varies between two quotes for the same appliance: Ideal's own published warranty tables and terms. The range runs from 2 years to 12, and where you land depends on which model, who installs it, and whether three pieces of admin get done.

The warranty ladder, as Ideal publish it

Ideal publish warranty lengths per model, and the spread is wider than either Worcester or Vaillant.

• Vogue Max, combi and system: 12 years, when installed by a MAX accredited installer.
• Vogue Gen2, combi and system: 10 years.
• Logic Max, combi, system and heat only: 10 years.
• Logic+ ranges: 7 years, plus 10 years on the heat exchanger.
• Logic Heat and the Mexico HE floor standing boiler: 2 years.
• Logic ESP1 and Logic System, the versions sold into new build and social housing: what Ideal call flexible warranty options, which means the developer or housing provider chose the cover, not you.

The new build catch

That last line matters locally. The Logic you find in a house on the newer estates is often the ESP1 variant, bought by the developer on whatever warranty terms the developer negotiated. Your neighbour with the same-looking boiler, fitted as a replacement by a local installer, may have ten years of cover while yours ran out after two.

So if you have bought a new build, do not assume the number you have seen advertised applies to your boiler. Dig out the paperwork from your plot handover and check what was actually registered. If the answer is a short warranty already gone, the boiler is not faulty for it, but it does change the maths the day it develops an expensive problem.

One more thing the ladder shows. Unlike Worcester and Vaillant, Ideal do not make their longest warranty conditional on buying the manufacturer's own filter. The 12 year Vogue Max figure needs a MAX accredited installer, not a specific accessory. Before you conclude Ideal are relaxed about system water, read the exclusions below.

The 30 day rule, and the date on the data plate

Ideal's terms follow the same pattern we found at Worcester and Vaillant, with a couple of edges of their own. The boiler must be registered within 30 days of installation. Miss that and the warranty does not drop to some standard middle figure: it becomes 12 months from installation.

Two quieter conditions sit next to it. The boiler must be installed and commissioned within 12 months of manufacture. And without proof of purchase, meaning an invoice or a completed Benchmark commissioning sheet, the warranty commences from the date of manufacture on the appliance data plate, not from the day it went on your wall. A boiler that sat in a merchant's warehouse for months starts losing warranty before it is ever fired.

The Benchmark sheet must also be completed by the installer and left with the boiler. Ideal reserve the right to charge a call out fee if an engineer attends and there is no completed Benchmark sheet present. The word "lapse", and who has to do the servicing

Every manufacturer requires an annual service. Ideal's wording is blunter than most: at the end of each 12 month period the boiler must be serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and should this condition not be met the boiler warranty will lapse. Not be suspended, not need evidence at claim time. Lapse.

There is a further wrinkle on the flagship. To keep the extra years on a Vogue Max, Ideal's guidance is that the servicing should be carried out by a MAX accredited engineer, not just any Gas Safe engineer. If you bought the 12 year figure, the cheapest service you can find each year may quietly cost you the thing you paid for. Ask whoever services it whether they hold the accreditation, and keep every receipt.

The sludge exclusion does the filter's job

Ideal may not demand their own filter, but their exclusions get to the same place. The warranty does not apply to descaling or other work required as a result of hard water scale, or to damage caused by aggressive water or sludge resulting from corrosion. The terms even list the tell-tale signs: a noisy boiler, cold spots on radiators, sludge in pipes, poor circulation.

In other words, if the heat exchanger fails because the system water was dirty, that is your problem, not Ideal's. Around here the water is hard, which makes the case for a proper flush and inhibitor at installation, and a filter, on merit rather than because a warranty table forces it. Damage from the system the boiler was connected to is the single most common reason warranty claims get argued about, whoever made the boiler.

The one-year bonus, and the small print worth knowing

One genuinely unusual term appeared in Ideal's 2026 conditions. On MAX boilers sold from 1 January 2026, if the boiler suffers a latent defect through correct use, Ideal add one extra year to the warranty end date. Once, and once only: further claims do not extend it again. A warranty that gets longer because the boiler broke is a strange thing, but it is in the published terms.

The rest of the small print rhymes with every other manufacturer we have read. Repairs and replacement parts do not otherwise extend the warranty. Moving the boiler from where it was installed without Ideal's consent ends the cover. Loft installations need a permanently fixed ladder, flooring and lighting before an engineer will attend, and Ideal will not remove kitchen units to reach a boiler squeezed into a cupboard. A call out fee can be charged where no fault is found, or where an appointment is missed.

None of this is a reason to avoid the brand. It is a reason to treat the warranty as a contract with jobs on your side of it: register inside 30 days, keep the Benchmark sheet with the boiler, service it every year with the right engineer, and keep the system water clean.

What to ask if you are quoted an Ideal

Which model exactly, since Logic, Logic Max and Vogue Max carry three different warranties. Are you MAX accredited, and will the warranty be registered against my name within 30 days. Who should service it each year to keep the full term. And will the system be flushed and inhibited, given what the exclusions say about sludge.
